This is new, didn't happen with previous fontconfig version.
I'm using valgrind 3.7.0 on arch linux.

what the version are you referring with "previous fontconfig version"? apparently you are testing with 2.8.0 but not 2.9.0. please try again with 2.9.0.

Ok, was fixed with 2.9.0. I didn't notice there was a newer release because http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/fontconfig says 2.8.0 is latest.
