Description Dan Williams 2012-04-25 14:30:42 UTC
"New" laptop; got warned the disk was failing, tried to figure out if it actually was. Oddest is the current pending sector count which is an order of magnitude larger than the number of sectors the drive actually has. skdumps attached.

Btw, if I load that blob into libatasmart-0.18-2.fc17 I get BAD_SECTOR_MANY and 282013244 sectors, see [1].

Dan: what libatasmart version are you using? Do you also get BAD_SECTOR_MANY if loading the blob? (skdump --load=/path/to/blob).

libatasmart-0.17-2.fc13.i686

Only livecd I had that would boot.
Comment 5 Dan Williams 2012-04-25 14:47:25 UTC
(F14 livecd, not an F13 one. I guess libatasmart hadn't changed)

Found somebody else with the same drive and same issue:
