poppler git master; reproducible in gtk (cairo) and qt4 (splash, and arthur backends), so probably a core issue.

Go to page 10, and observe e.g. the last entry in the 2nd row of the table ("TC-2121"). It's a garbage image instead of the expected image of a glyph. 
Same happens for lots more images on this and other pages.

The document renders fine in acroread.

Looks fine here, which poppler-data do you have? which freetype?

poppler-data git master as of now. freetype is freetype-2.4.8-3.fc17.i686.

freetype 2.4.10 here, you may want to update. I'm closing the bug as worksforme for the moment since well, it works for me here. If you update to freetype 2.4.10 and still does not work, reopen the bug and we'll keep chasing what makes it work for me and not for you.

Updated freetype to git master, still reproduces.

mmm, ok, reopening, not sure what might be the problem now though, are you in 32 or 64 bit?

F17, i686.

BTW, I think the missing things really are images, not text. In acroread, selecting it then right-clicking says "Copy image" while select + rightclick on text says "Copy".

Ahhh, right, don't use openjpeg 1.4, use 1.3 or 1.5, they broke 1.4
