Installing this package appears to have solved my problem, thanks. gnome-control-center is no-longer listing my monitor as "Unknown", but appropriately as "Viewsonic [something]. It's too painfully backlit by the sun at this time of day to be sure it's not flickering, but based on previous experience I'm confident it's not. |
