Please post your xorg.conf. Can you reproduce this problem using a modern
>=7.1RC1 version of xorg?

I'll see if 7.1RC1 has made it into the Debian unstable.

I just want to report that I've just done a apt-get dist-upgrade and xorg works
with the latest version of the mach 64 driver (6.6.2 I believe).
