The file  (see page 28 of 364)

does not render correctly in evince. It works ok in xpdf.

My guess would be that this is the same as bug 5540. Are you using the cairo 
backend?

Yes, i'm using the cairo backend with poppler 0.5 and cairo 1.0.2.

it looks like half of the problem is cairo's bug 5561. I am not sure about the
other part but it looks like it unrelated to bug 5540.

Turns out the problem is completely due to bug 5561.
