I'm having trouble with the Geforce 8400GS in Fedora 18

No matter what resolution I set, the tops and corners of the screen get cut off and the text is very prickly.

I'm using HDMI on a Vizio VW32L HDTV40A (DFP-1) in a Dell Optiplex 380

Kernel version: 3.7.2-201.fc18.x86_64
Driver: Nouveau

Does this still happen with the latest kernel? Are you sure that the TV isn't just overscanning? There's often an option in the TV settings to disable this. What exactly do you mean by "wrong resolution"?

Please supply the output of:

xrandr -q --verbose
