A few questions: - Does this still happen on latest drm-intel-nightly from http://cgit.freedesktop.org/~danvet/drm-intel ? - Does this only happen when you try to light up a 3-pipe configuration, or can it also happen when only using a single display (but with the same physical configuration)? You might want to set up a scripted loop with xrandr to enable/disable the screen a few times. Would be rather interesting if this changes the failure rate. If you do the single-screen configuration stress-testing, please make sure that you select the same crtc as with the 3 pipe configuration. You can see the crtc of a given config with xrandr --verbose and set it with --crtc <num> Created attachment 73969 [details]
system log
1.We've tried latest drm-intel-nightly(1/29/2013) kernel but problem persist, please see attachment for detail. 2.We use same configuration with single display and it's working fine. seems this problem just only happen on condition that 2 or more monitors connecting to the M/B. Single Display in port DP3 20/20 (pass times/test count) 100% pass Single Display in port DP1 20/20 (pass times / test count) 100% pass Single Display in port HDMI2 20/20 (pass times / test count) 100% pass (The test record ( include `xrandr --verbose` result) has been attached to the attachment.) Hm, somewhat unexpected that single pipe works, but things start to fail as soon as you enable two screens. Just to clarify: Even when you only enable two screens on CRTC 0 and CRTC 1 you experience modeset failures? CRTC 2 is a bit special, hence why I'm asking ... Yes, The problem persist even when we just enable two screens on CRTC 0 (DP1) and CRTC 1 (DP3). Created attachment 74179 [details]
log of just enable two screens on CRTC 0 (DP1) and CRTC 1 (DP3).

Do you need more information regarding this issue? This impact the prodcut schedule. thanks. Hm, on my IVB, dual head always comes up (DVI + DP). Would it be possible for you to send me one of the failing machines so I can debug it? While I'm waiting for my system, you could try this patch. In the unlikely event we're training successfully for pattern 1 and 2 but with different vswing and preemphasis settings. http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/intel-gfx/2013-March/026246.html Tried the patch and it is still failed. But we found that Ubuntu 13.04 /w Kernel 3.8.0-13-generic x86_64 seems solve this issue. But we need run more test cases on that. Yep tried build kernel version 3.8.5 with Xorg V1.11.3. This issue is still unsolved. 1. Monitor will disappear whil unplug then plug in DP or DVI cable. please see hotplug_3.8.5_test.zip log . ( loop0 is pass , loop1~3 are failed) 2.re-start Xorg test. please see Xorg-restart_3.8.5_test.zip log. ( loop5 is pass , loop6~8 are failed) Created attachment 77670 [details]

I have the test platform now, and haven't seen this with DP + DVI, looping through startup and shutdown of X. Does it need to be a dual DP config to reproduce the failure? I'm using drm-intel-next: commit 80ad9206c0d863832bc5f6008c4d1868d1df8e70 Author: Ville Syrjälä <ville.syrjala@linux.intel.com> Date: Fri Apr 19 14:36:51 2013 +0300 drm/i915: Make struct dpll == intel_clock_t (In reply to comment #23) Dual display port monitor are necessary to reproduce the failure. > I have the test platform now, and haven't seen this with DP + DVI, looping > through startup and shutdown of X. > > Does it need to be a dual DP config to reproduce the failure? > > I'm using drm-intel-next: > > commit 80ad9206c0d863832bc5f6008c4d1868d1df8e70 > Author: Ville Syrjälä <ville.syrjala@linux.intel.com> > Date: Fri Apr 19 14:36:51 2013 +0300 > > drm/i915: Make struct dpll == intel_clock_t Ok I reproduced the issue after a few restarts of lightdm with 2 DP monitors plugged in (25x16 + 19x12). This patch seems to fix it though: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=78330&action=edit Can you confirm? Actually can you test this one to be sure? http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/intel-gfx/2013-April/027102.html After trying comment 25 and 26. The issue is still remain. here is the steps to configure the environment: system configuration CPU:Intel® Core™ i5-3470 Processor Kernel: 3.8.5 libdrm :libdrm-2.4.42 2D driver : xf86-video-intel-2.21.6 How to reproduce this problem: 1. use the attached config "kernel-3.8.5" to build kernel image and driver modules. 2. Restart our system and then install i915 driver by "modprobe" without any parameters before running Xorg. 3. make sure the "i915" "drm_kms_helper" are installed. 4. try the command line below to start up Xorg or stop Xorg.( please see the attached files xorg.conf and test script startx.sh for deatil.) sh -x ./startx.sh start ( it will start up Xorg ) sh -x ./start.sh stop ( it will stop Xorg ) Created attachment 78445 [details] for comment 27-kernel-3.8.5.cfg Created attachment 78446 [details] for comment 27-startx.sh Created attachment 78447 [details] for comment 27-xorg.conf Testing here with Ville's patch and I don't see the issue, even with your scripts. I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 bits with a drm-intel-next-queued kernel from yesterday with Ville's patch on top. Maybe some fixes are required after 3.8.5 in addition to the one from Ville? I'm at 8 start/stop iterations so far, I'll post again later after trying some more. I got up to 142 iterations and didn't see any failures like the ones you described. Two times my large Dell monitor sync'd improperly at first but then re-sync'd and the image was correct. I think it did the same thing a couple of times when going back to text mode, but I couldn't see the corruption because the screen was mostly black. But that never happened on DP1, which is a smaller Dell monitor in my config. Terence, can you re-test with the -nightly branch and Ville's patch? will try with latest nightly branch and get back to you. Aslo for your system, which release of Ubuntu 12.04 that you are using? 64 bit or 32bit? and your kernel and Xorg verion? thanks. Ubuntu 12.04.1, 64-bit. X server 1.11.3, X driver 2.17.0, but I don't think those are relevant. For this test, the kernel version is the only thing that should matter. which kernel that do you use? 3.8.10 (stable)? > which kernel that do you use? 3.8.10 (stable)?
No, drm-intel-next-queued from
git://people.freedesktop.org/~danvet/drm-intel.git
drm-intel-nightly is the branch which also contains the bugfix. I still have issue on my side. from a readme document: "On this development branch, it is necessary to use i915.preliminary_hw_support=1 at Linux Kernel command line to enable Haswell and ValleyView Support. Note: don't use this option unless you are using the drm-intel-nightly branch or a Kernel version newer than 3.7-rc3" Do I need to apply i915.preliminary_hw_support=1? Aslo please let me know how to reproduce your testing envirnment, is that: 1. install the ubuntu 12.04 32bit 2. use drm-intel-next-queued kernel from git://people.freedesktop.org/~danvet/drm-intel.git 3. apply Ville's patch from http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/intel-gfx/2013-April/027102.html Please help on this. thanks. Hi Imre, A little confused, that is there such converter which HDMI port to DP? If there's such converter, is it a active one? Created attachment 79873 [details] output of running startx.sh I tried 2 DP case for more than 30 times by running the script of attachment 78446 [details](startx.sh), I also can't reproduce the issue like the bug described. I attached the output of running script: startx.sh. Please notice me whether I need to do anything else, or I need to setup something about our machine's environment. By co-work with Terence and QNAP(one company of taiwan), we have been sure that this issue already gone on latest -next-queued kernel. I reproduced this issue by using QNAP's older kernel. Both loop running 100 times and only the kernel is different, you can clearly see the results: Physical environment: ------------------------ 1. two of the same monitor 2. Both DP plugged 3. I haven't changed the X in the machine which Terence shipped to me. Test Results: ------------------------ 1. older kernel: One DP monitor will come up a warning message “DisplayPort no signal”, and the other one always be OK. In my tests, the reproduce rate almost 10%(Totally loop running 100 times X start and stop). 2. latest -next-queued kernel: ------------------------ Worked perfect. loop running 100 times X start and stop, all passed. But the latest kernel has another issue(It's not related to this bug): Bug #65287 - [IVB regression dp] *ERROR* mismatch in adjusted_mode.flags (expected 1, found 0) So we get a conclusion: this bug has been fixed on latest kernels. We can close it now. We are tracking the new warning (bug 65287), it's minor. Treating this as fixed and presuming it was the shared dpll rework. Most likely fixed with commit cdbd2316a03f68b25a135a34d1d24f01ddef0c53 Author: Daniel Vetter <daniel.vetter@ffwll.ch> Date: Wed Jun 5 13:34:03 2013 +0200 drm/i915: fix up pch pll handling in ->mode_set Should easily apply on 3.10-rc kernels or 3.9 still, so if you want this backported please test. Atm the entire shared dpll rework series will be merged into 3.11. Just to confirm, you tested by connecting monitors to both of the DP ports on the machine Terence sent? I don't think an HDMI->DP dongle on the HDMI port will reproduce this problem... I have reproduced this problem they have got, then I use -next-queued latest kernel, the problem is gone. There's no HDMI on this machine. It support 2 DP and 1 DVI. Closing verified+fixed. |
