Description bugquestcontri 2013-02-13 10:36:22 UTC
Problem description:
I try to answer questions in AskLibO but don't have the time to read and answer every day all questions. However, when there is a question, where the final answer cannot be given at one time, I would like to follow this particular question up until I know the final answer is given or a bug reported. For this a list with filters is needed.

Solution:
Add to each profile in AskLibO a list of all questions for which an answer or comment is written. Sorting criteria: date of my and others' last answer/comment, LibO component, name of person who asked questions, date of questions. Maybe there is another important one which I cannot think of right now; please add.

I can be contacted.
Operating System: Windows XP
Version: 3.6.5.2 release

I am not sure whether I understand the core of the request.

Is it something like
List all questions
 - asked by user "moggi"
and
 - an answer by user "manj_k"

@bugquestcontri
please contribute a real life description with real questions in AskLibO and how you would like to have them filtered in a list
Comment 2 bugquestcontri 2013-02-17 12:04:47 UTC
There is no real life example in AskLibO. It is just a request to enable filters for all AskLibO question a user answered.

By doing so, a person answering questions can easily identify question which he/she wants to follow up until the orignal questions is surely answered.

If I understand this bug correctly it is essentially asking for a facility to allow a user to mark a question for later following-up. Is this bug now resolved with the "Follow" button in the right hand side panel of each question page and the corresponding "followed questions" link at the head of the user profile page? If it is, then I think it can be RESOLVED as FIXED.
Comment 4 bugquestcontri 2013-07-22 08:43:23 UTC
The Follow button needs to clicked always manually and can be forgotten, thus an automatism would be better.

Whenever I commented or answered to a question this question should be in a list associate to my profile. I can access this list via my profile. As soon as an answer (not necessarily my answer) is flagged as correct/solution the question should automatically disappear from this list.

This would enable me to follow up all questions to which I once wrote a comment or answer, until the questioner has flagged an answer as solved/solution. The follow up would be consistent although I cannot be in the forum everyday.

I can't support an automatically opt-in subscription / follow method other than the current inbox (envelope icon). Subscription / following is almost universally an opt-in, rather than opt-out method by default. As someone who is reasonably active on a couple of LO-related sites I do not want to be notified by email / tweet / whatever of every question I answer or thread I comment in, so this is essentially a matter of preference i.e., opt-in.

I am however happy to use the internal AskLO inbox fuction to track recent questions / threads. The one problem I see with this request is when a correct answer is selected that "the question should automatically disappear from this list". I would think it less useful to have automatic disappearance than to have these entries clearly marked. Whether this tracking enhancement is done via the inbox or the follow list I guess is debatable.

The other point appears to be the sorting of either inbox or follow list entries e.g., by date or alphabetic. This could be useful.

Hi Owen,

Don't be afraid, I don' t want to have notifications by additional mails or tweets. Like you I have enough.

I thought about an AskLibO internal function. This should just list all the questions to which I commented or answered to be able to follow up easily. Especially if there are days where I will not be able to access AskLibO on a daily basis. (September will be a month where I expect to have no time to access AskLibO).

The inbox function lists only questions where someone else added an @ROSt52.

Thus, you could also describe my request as an extension of the inbox where questions get listed when I only place a comment or answer but nobody enters @ROSt52 into a comment or answer.

Having said above, I think we are pretty much aligned with the understanding of my request.

Sorting: date might be better than alphabetical

Deleting of answered questions - I don't know enough to make a useful comment..

This sounds like a generic upstream improvement, which (for the moment) is out of scope to be developed only for our instance of AskBot. May I ask to file a request with upstream?
Comment 8 bugquestcontri 2014-02-02 13:15:17 UTC
I aggree that this request is not an important MUST but a NICE TO HAVE. Thus not urgent

Upps how has an upstream request to be done???
Comment 9 Florian Effenberger 2014-02-02 14:52:45 UTC
There IMHO is a support forum/ticketing system at the AskBot website. We will also try to see if we can fund some feature implementation if we need something desperately, but it's not in the budgeting right now.

Budgets are always limited. Just make the best our of it.
