Description Vladimir Didenko 2013-02-28 11:54:00 UTC
After update to fontconfig git master 72b0480 I noticed that almost all fonts in Chrome/Chromium became bold. I used follow command to configure font rendering

fc-conf --antialias enable --autohint disable --hinting enable --hintstyle full --rgba rgb --lcdfilter default

I see problem with Liberation Sans/Serif and Droid Sans/Serif fonts but Dejavu Sans/Serif works ok.

I am using Alt Linux Sisyphus x64 and libfreetype 2.4.11 with TrueType subpixel hinting support enabled. Tell me if any additional information is required.

Does this issue only happen on Chrome? how about on other apps?

one more question...

What version did you use before updating? if it is not 2.10.91, does this issue also happen with it?

I found particular commit that causes problem -

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/fontconfig/commit/?id=4eab908c8679a797ac7016b77a93ee41bb11b0fc

> Does this issue only happen on Chrome? how about on other apps?

Issue also affects Thunderbird. Often in emails with cyrillic and latin symbols cyrillic symbols are bold when latin characters have normal weight.

What I can see an issue related to this change was a crash issue that I've fixed in master just now. can you test this with the latest master again?
Liberation Sans works fine on thunderbird 17.0.3 at least.
