Hardware: HP nc6320 with CoreDuo T2400, i945GM and a 1400x1050 LCD panel.
Using the standard Linux kernel 2.6.16.
Currently using VESA driver.

915resolution v0.5.2 is used to "enable" the 1400x1050 which is not listed in
the VBIOS.

The Xorg server 6.9.0 is running fine @1400x1050 if started by the root user. It
crashes directly after startup (i think on the first drawing operation) if
started by an ordinary user:

The default i810 driver (contained in the 6.9.0 slackware package) does not
support the 945GM chipset, and the updated version taken from
http://dri.freedesktop.org/snapshots/i810-20060403-linux.i386.tar.bz2 is
crashing in the similar way (with different backtrace of course).

The Xorg 6.9.0 server (VESA) is running fine @1280x1024 (which is listed in
VBIOS) both as an ordinary user and as root.

Xorg 6.8.2 (vesa) is working fine @1400x1050 both as an ordinary user and as root.

915resolution bugs are an anachronism.  Use KMS.
