Hi,

seems there is a lot of confusion about mpeg4 support.
So I created this bug to track the status of it ...

This table says all :

Today driver supports h264 ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPEG-4_Part_10 )
but not legacy format ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPEG-4_Part_2 )

This has been reported in the mailing list too :

So, Is support for this codec planned in the future ? 


Note I came to this probem while trying to playback (using gstreamer)
this test file (ffmpeg's FMP4 encoded) :

I figured out that vaapi gstreamer decoder was not used
while it is said to support it 

  gst-inspect-1.0 vaapidecode
  (...)
  video/mpeg
  mpegversion: 4

but vainfo does not list VAProfileMP4* profile ... 
since intel driver does not support it (so far) ... 

( how can this been reported at the gst level ? )

MPEG4/Part2 is not supported in any Intel GEN HW.
