You know HAL doesn't yet work with Standby and I happen to use standby on an old
desktop since S3 isn't supported on it.

So just get HAL working with S1 suspend.

This patch against CVS HEAD adds support for standby (S1) to HAL. Could you
test the patch and check if this works for you on your distribution?

Thanks for the patch. I read through it and it seems clean. When I get an
oppurtunity to test it, I will do so.
