I have set up Xorg-7.1 with drm and mesa from cvs and am using the tdfx module
lspci recognizes my card properly: 01:06.0 VGA compatible controller: 3Dfx 
Interactive, Inc. Voodoo Banshee (rev 03)

After starting up X (which does quite fine) Xorg.0.log looks like this:

Could not init font path element /usr/share/fonts/TTF, removing from list!


Loggin into KDM and starting up KDE works fine and graphics is done pretty fast 
(compared to Driver "vesa" which i used before). But when i try to start 
software that uses GLX, like glxinfo, glxgears or foobillard-glx X crashed and 
puts the following output into the Xorg.0.log:

DRIUnlock called when not locked

   *** If unresolved symbols were reported above, they might not
   *** be the reason for the server aborting.

Backtrace:

This pretty annoys and happens with different versions of the x11-drm package.

asking in #xorg on the freenode irc i was told that this pretty much looks like 
a "real" bug and i was suggested to post this here. I hope this information is 
sufficient, if not, i will of course provide more.

i found out that libglide-v3 was'nt present on my system

Using the ebuild or the binary glide driver from glide.sf.net
did'nt help out, but X is'nt crashing anymore.

Instead it "hangs" while executing gl apps.

I think the Summary is misleading, it should be obvious tdfx_dri requires
libglide-v3 and this dependency should be supported by distribution. X shouldn't
obviously crash with SEGV, but that's another matter. Instead, the summary
should be about a hang in tdfx, not only Banshee is affected.

Today I did an upgrade to Xorg 7.1. I use not Banshee, but Voodoo3. As we can
see in pasted Xorg logs, AIGLX initializes drm, but somehow locks it in a hard
way. libdrm's drmGetLock stucks in DRM_IOCTL_LOCK ioctl call (not really looping
with the while there, the ioctl gets stuck and never returns), a bt from glxinfo:

The very nasty effect of this hang is that enabling metacity's compositing hangs
whole X (I guess the AIGLX-enabled server locks on the same ioctl, but haven't
tried to debug it).

This looks partially fixed in CVS. I recompiled Mesa and Xorg from Rawhide and
voila, glxinfo ran, but only one time. After that single run, glxinfo or
glxgears hang as before. But this time, instead of hanging somewhere in libdrm,
it starts to eat CPU somewhere in Mesa code:

logs. I'll debug it some other time :) Today it's time to test if metacity will
run composite if I tell it to do it before any other gl program :)

xserver-xorg-1.1.1, video-tdfx-1.2.1, Mesa3D-20060807-CVS, libdrm-2.0.2,
glibc-20060823-CVS, linux-2.6.17.8, Glide3-20060807-CVS,
all compiled by gcc-4.1.1 and GNU binutils-2.17.

The Xorg server crashes when starting glxinfo or glxgears or
glinfo or glgears in hardware rendering mode (tdfx DRI enabled, 16 bpp).
When run with GL_DEBUG=1, all the libraries were found and loaded:
tdfx_dri.so, glide3.so, etc.

Software rendering works fine.

I confirm the bug (not the crash, but the "freeze" or lock problem).

My configuration is:
* distro: Mandriva 2007
* video card: 3Dfx Voodoo Banshee
* versions:
  * xorg-x11-7.1.0-6mdv2007.0
  * x11-driver-video-tdfx-1.2.1-2mdv2007.0
  * mesa-6.5.1-1jcc2007.0 and the like (libmesa*) (yes I upgraded myself to 
6.5.1 with great hope ;) but it did not solve anything)
  * Glide_V3-DRI-2002.04.10-1mdk
  * libdrm2-2.0.2-1mdv2007.0

glxinfo has the exact same behaviour than comment #3. I also have the same 
AIGLX lines in my Xorg.0.log. (for me the process freezes at the very first 
run). Any OpenGL application hangs the same way.

Please help us :-)

No it isn't. I had bug #7574 with older versions (for example all SDL 3D games 
ended up with "SDL parachute deployed", and the like), but I'm not experiencing 
this bug anymore. Furthermore I upgraded to 6.5.1 (see my previous message) in 
which it is corrected.

In this case, this is the "freeze" or hang of the process.

As said Leszek Matok & myself, the summary is misleading. Should we open a new 
bug and close this one?

Do I really need to copy here my logs and straces that are already accessible 
through Mandriva bugzilla? (see link above)
