Proposal explained on Gnome combo boxes

Currently, the drop-down arrows in combo boxes appear as separate buttons.
On Windows [1] and with some Linux themes, combo box arrows appear within the text field, not separated or barely separated from the rest of the text entry part of the field.

My proposal would be to show the dropdown button inside the text entry field with no surrounding borders by default, unless specified differently for the platform. This would work well along with https://www.libreoffice.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=73068, which would broaden the target area for opening dropdown and therefore eliminate the need for a clearly delineated dropdown button.

UI enhancement request. set status to NEW.
combo boxes always looked like that from OOo-era (changing version field).
I add UI expert to CC list to hear his opinion.

How will this interact with other GTK+ themes? Do we want to vanish the ▾ button in all of them? Because the current ugly look is an Adwaita-specific bug.
