Stefan: I thought this tracker might interest you. Gnome style does not recommend title case. But *sigh* if you're going to change all these strings yet again, please change them in all the PO files - please do not bother translators again with this. @Adolfo: Thanks for your reply. I personally like this title case for the main titles, but only for them. For me it would be principally also be ok to use sentence case. The only thing I would suggest is to use only one form but not to mix them like right now. Does LO have any standards regarding this? I think it would be important to define such standards. Regarding your second issue I have unfortunately to admit that I am not that a computer specialist/only a LO user (even if it would not need that many programming skills) and I also would not change it before having a feedback to corresponding LO rules and standards. My comment was more directed to the one who fixes this issue, not towards you, Andy. The thing is, all translators had to retranslate half LibreOffice because of the transition to .ui-based dialogs, and if a bunch of strings change again just for consistent capitalization, that would be super annoying because capitalization is just an English language thing — it does not affect Spanish, for example. So, my my point was: whoever fixes this bug, make sure translations aren’t affected. Gnome actually recommends header style capitalisation (i.e. title case): https://developer.gnome.org/hig-book/3.0/design-text-labels.html.en#layout-capitalization (See under "Group box or frame labels") => Let's go with GNOME here, since we try to follow their guidelines elsewhere too If you are going to do those string changes, please work out something with Andras, so you don't annoy translators (as Adolfo Jayme hinted at). (CC'ing him on the bug.) > If you are going to do those string changes, please work out something with > Andras, so you don't annoy translators (as Adolfo Jayme hinted at). (CC'ing > him on the bug.) I opened bug 76404 to track changes like this. Feel free to commit the change, and make a note with the commit hash in bug 76404. I did start fiddling on a (python) script for this change. If I succeed I'll work on bug 76404 too so no/few translations has to be redone. Joren De Cuyper committed a patch related to this issue. It has been pushed to "master": http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/commit/?id=171efcb7acf367e8db53694489815452d2a9894a fdo#76203 - use consistent titlecase for UI title labels The patch should be included in the daily builds available at http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/ in the next 24-48 hours. More information about daily builds can be found at: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Testing_Daily_Builds Affected users are encouraged to test the fix and report feedback. |
