Two jpg, screen captures

Problem description:

Currently using LibreOffice 4.2.1.1, that suggests downloading the new version.

New installation seems to have some "crossed wires" eg file names not updated, eg attached screen capture Error1.

Then goes to display Error2 attached.

Installer exits, 4.2.1.1 remains.

Operating System: Windows 8
Version: 4.2.4.2 rc
Last worked in: 4.2.1.1 release

Did you try a clean install uninstalling 4.2.1 first?

Not at the time of reporting but subsequently, yes.
Same result. Eventually, I cleared all program directories, roaming directories, and purged all the registry entries relating to LibreOffice. Still same result. I suspect there is a problem with how the .msi file is being handled locally.
The only way I can now run LibreOffice is to install the portable version. That would be ok, but I prefer to have the help pages local, which doesn't seem to be possible.

@Martin - have you been able to install 4.2.5.2 ? I think your download was just screwed up to be honest. Please try with 4.2.5.2 and report back. Thanks!

Just tried that - same result. Installer still looks for 4.2.1 (long ago unistalled) and won't proceed without it. I think this is probably a Windows 8.1 installer problem, as something similar has happened recently. The workaround involving the MS Fix-it thing worked with that, but not LibreOffice.

The MS Fix It latest version fixed the problem eventually. 4.2.1 was not listed as installed, but uninstall of 4.2.1 had failed. Same with the Help Pack - had to re-run Fix It.

is issue still present with 4.2.6.2 or 4.3.2.2?

Recently installed 4.2.6.3, no errors.
It's a Windows 8.1 problem. MS "Fix It" needed for several failed installs or uninstalls.

so, is it a Win8.1 bug or a LibO bug?
should we close this report as WORKSFORME?

Yes it's a Win8.1 bug, so you can close this report.

FWIW, Win8.1 also causes errors/conflicts relating to keyboard and language that I don't remember seeing with previous versions of the OS. I looked through some of the bug entries for "keyboard" and some look like these.

so basically with latest LibO releases and updated Win8.1 this bug doesn't happen anymore? right? is this MS Fix it a kind of patch or service pack thing?
