Test on a Dell OptiPlex workstation with a i865 chipset ( 8M of RAM ).
When using a screen resolution of 1600x1200 ( 16 bits ), if kicker size is
superior to 90% ( see kicker settings ), it will become blank. Setting the 
size to 80% work.

If I resize the screen to 1280x1024, i can set kicker size to 90% without
issue.
It may happens also directly for all the kde desktop. Seems to be an 
allocation or redraw issue

Sounds like a hardware limitation or kicker-limitation. Please reopen on bugs.opencompositing.org if this is still an issue.
