wget -O test.jpg http://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=72539

rsvg-convert -f pdf image.svg -o image.pdf

You'll notice that the images in the PDF are tiled, whereas the PNG output
[http://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=72544] is correct.

I'm sorry that I don't have a smaller test case.

What version of cairo was used?

This was fixed in
http://gitweb.freedesktop.org/?p=cairo;a=commit;h=5f9d70a56158e468683dba953d6eaceea4dfd644
and 
http://gitweb.freedesktop.org/?p=cairo;a=commit;h=e2ce27db302a185e6e80ead699c01e43921939ca

cairo 1.4.0 included these fixes.
