Description Jay Philips 2014-10-23 11:29:24 UTC
As mentioned in bug 85059, with the Tools->Options->Load/Save->Microsoft Office settings checked by default, embedded objects are being converted when a file is loaded (e.g. attachment 107871 [details]), which either slows down the loading on Linux or halts LibO on Windows.

So the solution as stated by Meeks is "we should convert them as/when we need to on activation / macro use etc. but ... it is there." as it "Seems to be spending a lot of time re-saving the embedded objects as ODF etc."

Thanks for filing Jay =) I think there may be a number of duplicates / similar performance issues out there - it'd be good to stack them up here =)
Comment 2 Jay Philips 2014-11-05 04:26:27 UTC
@Michael: So i should turn this into a meta bug about loading performance issues?

Hmm - of course, you can do - but please not all loading performance issues: there is a never-ending stream of those. Only loading perf. issues where un-checking those options makes things faster =) They should depend on this one.

Thanks ! =)

I maybe bad at searching, but i havent found any that are duplicates of this. Everything relating to embedded objects are about OLEs.
Comment 5 Michael Meeks 2014-11-06 11:01:29 UTC
Thanks for looking ! =) an embedded object is an OLE object :-)
Comment 6 Jay Philips 2014-11-06 11:52:36 UTC
Well all the OLE object bugs i saw were related to them not loading correctly and not about performance issues. :D
