Right-click the plot and go to "Data ranges..." -> "Data series...", and then add a new plot. Now, if you will select a cell for name (e.g. E1 cell) and then you will click on any other plot in list, and go back to new-added plot, you will see that actually "Range for Name" field is empty. 

Now, if you will just click "ok", and come back to this plot properties, you will find textbox still empty.
If you will finish editing the plot (add for X $Sheet1.$A$2:$A$169 and for Y $Sheet1.$E$2:$E$169 ), and come back to "Data series...", then you will see all fields completed.

There has been quite a lot of changes in chart in 4.3 branch.
For the test, could you give a try to last stable LO version 4.3.3?
