Description Geoffrey 2015-01-11 17:10:12 UTC
I would like to see clearly when Caps Lock/Shift Lock is turned on in the LibreOffice interface. This improves user experience.

how should the Caps Lock status be displayed in the UI?
could you provide a mockup?

In the status bar, as in Word? I think it should be an icon instead of text, it would take less space.

I don't care how it's implemented. Just somewhere where it's visible so you can keep a look at it while writing text. :)

I dont think this is a needed feature or should we also add status for when numlock is pressed. I find it silly that currently have a statusbar entry for insert, as we already have a different cursor used when we are in insert mode.

Just for your information, MS Word 2007 does have a caps-lock indicator but its not visible by default. I have no idea if other versions have this feature.

To get the Caps Lock indicator visible do the following:

1.Right-Click the status bar.
2.Click on Caps Lock in the list.

Now when your Caps Lock is ON the word "Caps Lock" will appear.

I personally do not think this is an important issue because there is alot of ways to have indicators either in the keyboard physically or through the Operating System. But I do not think its bad either, so if it can be done why not?

Not all people immediately see Caps Lock is on, for example on a laptop the LED light for Caps Lock might be absent or easily overlooked.

At least an option to show the current state is desirable.

For Insert, I agree with you that's not really useful :) In fact, I don't even like Insert and when I use it, it's by accident and I turn it off immediately.

Right-click Word’s status bar. Next time Google it.

Thanks Ibrahim and Adolfo for pointing out that Word has it as an option.

Most people can identify that caps lock is on when they type, as all the letters would be in capital letters.

If it possible to allow the customization of the statusbar, like in Word, so that users who want it added can enable it, that seems like a good thing.
