The kcm_touchpad module (KDE touchpad configuration) has a notification mechanism to display when the touchpad is enabled/disabled. Makes sense from a UI POV.

We have an option to disable the touchpad whenever an external mouse is plugged in, but this is done silently. A caller would have to poll the state whenever they see a new device to make sure the touchpad is on/off.

Do we need a notification event here?

An event seems far better than polling to me.

closing as WONTFIX until we have a real use-case that requires us to do so. it would be useful for KDE to have that event I guess, but until they ask for it, we can ignore this.
