I noticed this problem right after installing kernel 4.0 rc 7.
thought maybe it was something that was known, and would have gotten resolved. but now with the release of 4.0, I'm still having this issue.

When I start my system, I'm not getting any networking to start fully

I instead get this message:
waiting for network configurations
waiting up to 60 more seconds for network configuration...
booting system without full network configurations.

I can get to the networking in recovery mode. so I know things are working.
it just seems like nothing in my init.d is getting setup.

i'm not sure what logs you may need to research this.

I don't know exactly when this started.
somewhere between kernel 4.0 rc4, and rc7.
I have not yet checked to see if this problem is in rc6 or rc5.

I will test those in the morning and get back to you.

also, not sure if this is where this bug belong.

also,

i noticed a message stating:
cannot find device p17p1

which happens to be my network device.

Which distribution is this? Which network configuration logic is this?

Which software do you use to configure your network? NetworkManager? ifupdown?

good questions.

this machine has one purpose, to run Kodi software.
I installed the mini.iso of Ubuntu on the machine, and use it to run Kodi for my HTPC.
Is there a log I can give you that might tell you what software it "might" be using?

I can now also say that this problem shows up in kernel 4.0 rc6.

Ubuntu 14.10 does not use systemd. Please ask your distro vendors for help.
