Hi,

I have a mainboard made by VIA Embedded called EPIA-M830.

The specific model I have is called EPIA-M830-10VE which is a version of VIA Technologies Nano processor without a fan that runs at 1 GHz (nice to have a low noise desktop PC sometimes).
Anyway, I tried the "out of the box" OpenChrome device driver that came with Lubuntu 12.04 i386, but it has some issues, so I decided to install the latest OpenChrome from freedesktop.org Git repository.
    Unfortunately, the OpenChrome device driver has number of issues I have observed.

- Booting of Lubuntu 12.04 i386 becomes unreliable

It is hard to reproduce this issue, but sometimes after I log in, I get several programs I launch crashing left and right.
Examples include Update Manager, Task Manager, web browser, etc.
I believe Update Manager has a known boot startup issues, but other programs never used to crash until I installed the OpenChrome I compiled from source code.
The particular hard drive I am using with EPIA-M830 mainboard was used with Intel D845PEBT2 mainboard and ATI Technologies Radeon 9550SE AGP graphics card.
The above two combo used to work really reliably probably because ATI Technologies R300 family device driver is known to be very stable (As far as I am concerned, it is one of the most reliable AGP graphics card I know with Linux.).
Now that I am using the latest OpenChrome I compiled from source code, I see OS stability issues.
As far as I recall, the "out of the box" OpenChrome did not exhibit similar stability issues.


- ACPI S3 State resume instability

One of the major reason why I decided to compile the latest OpenChrome source code myself, was due to "out of the box" OpenChrome device driver having resume issues with ACPI S3 State.
The compiled version appears a little better, but it often freezes or hangs when I resume for the second time.
If this is not tested frequently, please start testing ACPI S1 / S3 State resume before committing the code since I really need ACPI S3 State resume to work reliably (I don't really use ACPI S1 State for standby, but it will be nice if it also worked reliably.).


- 2D Rendering performance

Is 2D acceleration working with VX800's Chrome HC3 integrated graphics?
The rendering is not buggy (i.e., it is not leaving behind junk on the screen when I move the window around) with the latest device driver, but I feel like when I move a window, the redrawing is not terribly fast.
Maybe I should not complain too much about this issue since it is not a bug.


- Who does OpenChrome device driver validation?

I am wondering who really does device driver validation for OpenChrome.
I do own quite a few VIA Technologies hardware I have collected myself over the years, so should I start doing this for the OpenChrome community?


In order to analyze what is wrong with the device driver, I can upload any system log files the development people ask for.
