Description Elmar Stellnberger 2015-11-29 20:06:22 UTC
The DRM module seems to have problems to restore the graphics mode for my XFX Radeon R7 240 4K UHD graphics card after resume from s2disk. I just get pixel soup the mouse pointer being a pixel square moving around. When I switch to another vt-console I get a different pixel soup without mouse pointer. The same pixel soup can be seen on the splash screen during preparations for s2disk. At first radeon sets the graphics mode correctly on resume but when it comes to restore the screen content then the pixel soup is going to come along. Consider the logs for any further details (s2ram does not work either with this card though there is a very different, likely an ACPI related issue: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=108541).

Looks like acceleration fails to initialize during resume:

[drm:r600_ring_test [radeon]] *ERROR* radeon: ring 0 test failed (scratch(0x850C)=0xCAFEDEAD)
[drm:si_resume [radeon]] *ERROR* si startup failed on resume

Everything else is likely cascaded failure caused by this.

Michel, is there anything we can do about it?

likely an issue of the mainboard manufacturer as this works with the same card and another motherboard; closing.
