This likely comes from the USB ID database: 1686 ZOOM Corporation 0045 H4 Digital Recorder ...assuming "lsusb" shows a line with "ID 1686:0045" that points to your recorder. I believe you can submit a patch to the usb ID database to change it to, e g, "H2n/H4 Digital Recorder" instead. The USB ID database is here: http://www.linux-usb.org/usb-ids.html Please reopen the bug in case my guess is incorrect. Oh, here's some interesting info: When I connect a Zoom H6 recorder, I can choose between "Stereo Mix" and "Multitrack". If I select "Multitrack", it shows up as ID 1686:01c5, but if I select "Stereo Mix", it shows up as ID 1686:0045, like yours do as well. Hence, perhaps the USB ID string should be "H-series digital recorder" instead. What do you think? Thanks for replying. This is strange. Zoom H2n only has one USB audio mode. What does dmesg show for the Zoom H6 modes? I'll write to the usb id repository and see what they say about this then. PS: I just want to correct this:
>When I use my Zoom H2n as an audio interface, it shows up in dmesg as:
>> [ 1125.666708] scsi 5:0:0:0: Direct-Access ZOOM H2n SD R&W 0.01 PQ: 0 ANSI: 2
This shows up when I connect it in card reader mode!
When I connect it in audio interface mode, I only see in dmesg:
[13486.890013] usb 3-2: new full-speed USB device number 6 using ohci-pci
