When several windows are open (no specific program, just normal pc use), the gui will stop responding. Audio and mouse pointer continue to work fine. After about 10 seconds, everything works again, and the message comes up: Desktop effects were restarted due to a graphics reset. Happens more often the more programs/windows/activities are happening simultaneously. Happens many times a day since installation of OS.

went to http://cgit.freedesktop.org/drm-intel -looks like greek to me
started with mint 17.2 kde, then upgraded to 17.3 kde.
upgraded and updated.

intel haswell hd graphics on celeron through hdmi.

in /var/log/kern.log it says:
stuck on render ring
GPU HANG: ecode 0:0x87d3bffa, in kwin [2226], reason: Ring hung, action: reset
GPU hangs can indicate a bug anywhere in the entire gfx stack, including userspace.
Please file a _new_ bug report on bugs.freedesktop.org against DRI -> DRM/Intel
drm/i915 developers can then reassign to the right component if it's not a kernel issue.
The gpu crash dump is required to analyze gpu hangs, so please always attach it.
GPU crash dump saved to /sys/class/drm/card0/error
Enabling RC6 states: RC6 on, RC6p off, RC6pp off

attached is a copy of /sys/class/drm/card0/error
