Description kronheim 2007-01-25 19:45:20 UTC
Steps to reproduce (on Ubuntu 6.10, no xgl, compiz 0.3.7):

1. Start a session with compiz.
2. Check the option "unredirect_fullscreen_windows" in gconf.
3. Open a terminal.
4. If you have used sudo recently, do "sudo -k" to reset the timestamp.
4. Do "gksudo synaptic", for example.
5. Enter password.
6. Wait.

Expected result: The darkened screen returns to normal brightness and synaptic opens.

Actual result: The darkened screen remains dark, nothing else responds to mouse clicks, and synaptic does not open.

I can recover from this sitation by going to a vt with Ctrl-Alt-F1, and then killing the gksudo process: after returning to the X session with Ctrl-Alt-F7, synaptic is open and all is well.

I am using nvidia, but I had the same experience on a different machine with an ATI card, using AIGLX and the radeon driver.

Sorry about the phenomenal bug spam, guys. Adding xorg-team@ to the QA contact so bugs don't get lost in future.

I know we've looked into this before, and I can't reproduce this (anymore). Unfortunately, no-one has updated the bug report.

Feel free to re-open this bug on bugs.opencompositing.org if you still experience it.
