Description Dietmar M. Zettl 2016-12-29 07:16:09 UTC
I'm using Xquartz to connect via XDMP to a FreeBSD 10.3 machine with CDE 2.2.4 installed. I want to use xrootconsole to display /var/log/messages transparently on the X root window. However, this does not work as expected. Instead of copying the background image of the root window, a black background is displayed. Using Xming on a Windows 10 machine to connect to the FreeBSD box yields the expected behavior. The content of the /var/log/messages is transparently placed onto the root window. So, I suspect something’s wrong with the XCopyArea implementation in the XServer, since this is the function xrootconsole uses. I also tried version 2.7.11 with the exact same result.
