To be honest I'm running a 4.8-rc7 kernel, so I can well believe this has been fixed.

richvdh, please update your kernel and xf86-video-intel, and confirm whether or not this is fixed. BTW, if it still occurs, add "drm.debug=0xe" at your boot command line and attached as well kernel log.

I've now (finally) switched to kernel 4.10-rc6.

I'm using the latest xf86-video-intel available from ubuntu for 16.04 [1]. Given I've only ever seen this hang once (so it would be difficult to know if an upgrade fixes it or not), I'm not convinced that expending the effort on building and installing from source would be worthwhile.

thanks for the update richvdh, I will set this bug as resolved for now. if the problem occurs (same issue) please reopen the bug. Other wise close this bug.
