Xorg.4.log

Symptoms: The problem shows up with a specific combination of X server and mouse (see below). Pressing the middle mouse button in the root window no longer produces a drop-down menu (as configured in twm, and works in other mouse/xserver combinations). When pressing and dragging the middle mouse button in a Firefox or xterm scrollbar, the window scrolls, and the position indicator moves, but the pointer does not move (it move with other mouse/xserver combinations). When pressing and dragging the middle mouse button in an xrn (with Athena widgets) scrollbar, nothing happens (this action scrolls the window, and moves the position indicator and pointer with other mouse/xserver combinations).

This bug occurs with an optical mouse with three buttons (no scroll wheel), called "Logitech Optical USB Mouse" in the Xorg.4.log below (the markings on the mouse say it's from HP, and the "Logitech USB Optical Mouse" (spot the difference) is a different mouse), with the X Server coming with Debian stretch (testing); the same mouse used to work as expected on Debian jessie; other mice (the "Logitech USB Optical Mouse" with scroll wheel, and the PS/2 mouse without scroll wheel) work as expected even on the stretch X server.
