I get the GPU HANG as soon as I log into my computer and the desktop loads (or tries to).

Steps to repeat this:
I have a fresh install of arch linux and my machine boots into the terminal.
1) I log in
2) I start lightdm (systemctl start lightdm, i also have cinnamon installed)
3) The login screen appears - it is very sluggish, when i type the username it takes a few seconds to show on the screen
4) I type in my username and password and press enter

The desktop is visible for a few seconds (the edges of it are not to the monitors edge, and if i click on the menu nothing happens - attached 1.jpg), then most of the screen turns black (the top left and part of bottom right is visible, plus the mouse pointer in the middle - attached 2.jpg)

If i put: Option "DRI" "false" into the 20-intel.conf the login screen is not as sluggish and desktop loads without a problem (of course with a warning that it is running in software rendering mode). I opened a few windows and they opened without a problem - I didn't test for very long though.

My configuration is:

HW:
Asus B150M-k
Intel G4400
Crucial DDR4 8GB

uname:
Linux localhost 4.15.3-2-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Feb 15 00:13:49 UTC 2018 x86_64 GNU/Linux

The same thing happens if I boot other distros from Live USBs (tried Antergos and Mint). I don't have this problem while running Windows 8.1.

Are you using Mesa 17.3.4 from [testing], or still on 17.3.3? I believe 17.3.4 contains GPU hang fixes for your system.
Comment 2 yodaregs 2018-02-17 21:45:44 UTC
I am using Mesa-17.3.3-2. I will enable testing repo and try that thank you for suggesting it.
Comment 3 yodaregs 2018-02-17 22:06:41 UTC
The issue is still there with mesa-17.3.4-1. Attaching error dumb from this version as well.

Could you please also attach xorg.log?
I wonder if testing dmc 1.27 would make any difference: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101991#c18

xorg log

Added the xorg.0.log.

Mesa i965 devs just found out that 17.3.4 was missing a patch that fixes GPU hangs. If you can, please test with Mesa 18.0rc4 or master.
Comment 8 yodaregs 2018-02-24 16:27:26 UTC
I apologize, but I am a beginner and I don't seem to be able to build the mesa 18.0rc4 (stuck at configure not finding python-mako 0.8.0 or newer which I have installed (1.0.7-1)). On the Phoronix site it is reported that the stable release ov version 18 should happen at the end of February though so I will install the stable version as soon as it becomes available and report back.
Comment 9 yodaregs 2018-06-14 19:57:14 UTC
Problem still persists with mesa 18.1.1-1. I have uploaded the new dmesg and error file. Is it possible that my CPU/MOBO is defective ?

I have Intel HD Graphics 530 and it doesn't exhibit any issues.
Your GPU is Intel HD Graphics 510 which from specs should be the same except having less shading and texture units. So unfortunately it seems that you have something highly specific.
Comment 13 Mark Janes 2018-08-07 16:46:49 UTC
I would verify that the ram/cpu/mobo are working. Do other operating systems work?
