Description Christopher M. Penalver 2011-02-12 22:37:51 UTC
Downstream bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/695898

OOo bug:
http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=116269

WORKAROUND: Export PPT file to PDF to view slide show in acroread or evince, export PPT to PDF and open via Draw using PDF Import extension, or open PPT file in MS Power Point Viewer 2007 via WINE to view slideshow.

1) lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu natty (development branch)
Release: 11.04

2) apt-cache policy libreoffice-impress
libreoffice-impress:
  Installed: 1:3.3.0-1ubuntu1
  Candidate: 1:3.3.0-1ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 1:3.3.0-1ubuntu1 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/main i386 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) What is expected to happen is when one creates the below mentioned presentation in MS PowerPoint 2007 and saves in .ppt format, opens up attached example.ppt file in Impress, then runs the Slide Show, it looks the same as it does in Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer 2007 via WINE.

4) What happened instead via the Terminal:

cd ~/Desktop && wget https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/695898/+attachment/1780067/+files/example.ppt.bz2 && file-roller -h example.ppt.bz2 && loimpress -nologo example.ppt

is that some font sizes are larger in Impress (slide 6) than in MSPP.

[This is an automated message.]
This bug was filed before the changes to Bugzilla on 2011-10-16. Thus it
started right out as NEW without ever being explicitly confirmed. The bug is
changed to state NEEDINFO for this reason. To move this bug from NEEDINFO back
to NEW please check if the bug still persists with the 3.5.0 beta1 or beta2 prereleases.
Details on how to test the 3.5.0 beta1 can be found at:
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/BugHunting_Session_3.5.0.-1

Comment 4 Christopher M. Penalver 2012-01-03 13:44:30 UTC
Looks as expected using upstream attachment https://bugs.launchpad.net/openoffice/+bug/695898/+attachment/2656056/+files/slide6.ppt in:
LOdev 3.5.0beta2
Build ID: 8589e48-760cc4d-f39cf3d-1b2857e-60db978
Microsoft Windows Vista Business 6.0.6002 Service Pack 2 Build 6002

This seems to confirm that the issue is a Linux only one, due to font substitution when the correct font is not found on the system.
Comment 5 Christopher M. Penalver 2012-01-16 09:27:15 UTC
Reproducible in:
lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu precise (development branch)
Release: 12.04

apt-cache policy libreoffice-impress
libreoffice-impress:
  Installed: 1:3.5.0~beta2-2ubuntu3
  Candidate: 1:3.5.0~beta2-2ubuntu3
  Version table:
 *** 1:3.5.0~beta2-2ubuntu3 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main i386 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

This is a PowerPoint/Impress issue, therefore changed 'Component' accordingly.
Comment 8 Christopher M. Penalver 2012-11-08 20:36:57 UTC
I'm marking this as RESOLVED INVALID as, despite my best efforts to make this very targeted and specific, this ended up being a general "Fix everything" bug about Font Substitution, which are well known since OOo and now in LO. I'm going to close this report, and refile in a more targeted way. Thank you for your understanding.
