Just downloaded LibreOffice_4.2.2_MacOS_x86-64.dmg to see if I could open a Microsoft Publisher (unknown version) file. First two attempts resulted in a General error input/output message. Third time worked.
Could you attach the file so we can try to reproduce this? (keep in mind that every attachment is public so if you have private/confidential part in it, remove it first)
