Bug 13207

Summary: EXA UploadToScreen makes hard lockup with radeon x600 when just web browsing

Description Arkadiusz Miskiewicz 2007-11-12 15:02:30 UTC
Opening http://tmmb.pl/portal/ with opera (9.50 beta) or konqueror (stable kde 3.5.8) makes screen freeze.

System is alive (can ssh in), X process eats 99% cpu, it's in Runnable state. kill -9 doesn't kill it. X process still eats 99% cpu, still R-state but this time top show 0 memory usage for VIRT, RES and SHR.

Debugging with help on #xorg-dev ended with such conclusions:
- problem happens only for EXA always and smart; doesn't happen for EXA greedy
- problem doesn't happen for XAA
- using EXA, "always" migration - hangs. Adding:
    Option "EXANoUploadToScreen" "1"
  makes problem go away.
- < marcheu> yeah, so DMA transfers are busted
  [...]
< marcheu> well for some reason DMA transfers don't work
- git libdrm tree from master branch from today didn't help (both, kernel modules and userspace libdrm was replaced with git version)

This happens on Thinkpad Z60m 2529FKG running Linux 2.6.24rc2 from git, glibc 2.7, xserver 1.4, Mesa 7.0.2, ati driver 6.7.196, opera 9.50 20071102.6, konqueror from kde 3.5.8.

Yes, it is. With patch from that bug applied hang does no longer occur.
