Works for me.
Which poppler version are you using?
Do you have the poppler-data package installed?
What is the output of running okular from the shell?

Yes, I have poppler-data installed. For the version see below

rpm -qa | grep poppler
poppler-data-0.2.1-4.1.noarch
libpoppler5-0.12.0-3.5.i586
libpoppler-glib4-0.12.0-3.5.i586
libpoppler-qt2-0.12.0-3.5.i586
libpoppler-qt4-3-0.12.0-3.5.i586
poppler-tools-0.12.0-3.5.i586

> What is the output of running okular from the shell?

I get no output.

rpm -qa | grep freetype
freetype2-devel-2.3.9-2.2.i586
freetype2-2.3.9-2.2.i586

That u doesn't render correctly with that freetype version, update to a newer version.
