The relevant standard is http://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0077.html I took a (very very quick) look at this and found that plugins/gateways.c in gabble already has code for registering a new account. Change password is not much different. +1 This functionality seems like the only way to e.g. change the compromised jit.si password as they provide no web frontend to do this. So without a client that supports this like jitsi does (no Gentoo package for it), the situation is a little unfortunate. +1 -- GitLab Migration Automatic Message -- This bug has been migrated to freedesktop.org's GitLab instance and has been closed from further activity.
