Created attachment 3139 [details] [review] Patch to xc/lib/X11/OpenDis.c I have been able to work around this problem by setting : Option "NoAccel" "true" I have also experienced consistent lockups when using X.org 6.8.2 on my Dell XPS laptop with the radeon mobility 9800. These lockups occur when using either the ati or radeon driver. Perhaps lockup is not altogether correct. . . I can hear the CPU fan spin up and the machine ceases to respond to keyboard or mouse input. Once this occurs, the only way out is to hard reset the machine. I have experimented with turning off DRI and other extensions, but the only thing that seems to prevent lockups is to set option "NoAccel" to "true" in the Device definition for the graphics card. Unfortunately, this makes moving windows or scrolling text unbearably slow. I have attempted to keep an ssh connection into the machine, but it looks like the X lockup also breaks sshd and/or the network connection. Original reporter e-mail & comments lost in bugzilla disk crash. xorg-team archives show: Summary: ati | radeon driver locks up the system with Radeon 9800 Mobility Product: xorg Version: 6.8.99.5 Platform: PC OS/Version: FreeBSD Status: NEW Severity: critical Priority: P2 Component: Driver/Radeon AssignedTo: xorg-team at lists.x.org ReportedBy: pcasidy at casidy.com The computer is a Dell Inspiron 9100 laptop with a 3.2GHz Intel P4, 1.5Gb of memory and a Radeon Mobility 9800 videocard on a 1680x1050 LCD panel. X is xorg 6.8.99.5 radeon or ati driver. With an xorg.conf using ati or radeon driver, when using gtk based apps, the system freeze from the user point of view: only a power switch off can be done. The speed of the internal fans increase (forever loop?). I have encounter the problem with many gtk based apps: firefox, nautilus, gnumeric... and the gtk buttonbox demo. ati @ 1680x1050 : freeze ati @ 1280x1024 : freeze vesa @ 1280x1024 : works fine (except the display is ugly) I assigned this problem at FreeBSD.org : PR i386/81215 I have the exact same problem with a radeon 9600 M10 in xorg 7.0 RC1 under linux, with the exception that "NoAccel" "true" doesn't fix the lockups. (In reply to comment #2) > I have the exact same problem with a radeon 9600 M10 in xorg 7.0 RC1 under > linux, with the exception that "NoAccel" "true" doesn't fix the lockups. In other words, it's not the 'exact same' problem at all. Your description sounds more like bug 4324 and/or bug 4486. Does this still happen with a current version of xf86-video-ati? ping! (In reply to comment #5) > ping! > Hi. I use a laptop with a ATI IGP345M and I have the same problem described by this bug. I'm using version 6.5.7.3 of xf86-video-ati under ubuntu Dapper. If I turn off hw accelerations then all seems to work right, but the UI becomes very slow. Closing this bug due to the lack of activity. Pierpaolo: If you still experience your issue, please open a new bug, attaching your xorg.conf and your xorg log |
