Sorry about the phenomenal bug spam, guys. Adding xorg-team@ to the QA contact so bugs don't get lost in future. Nicola Girardi reported another problem about switching to console and back to X with the Sis driver. It looks like a freeze instead of a crash as reported here, but at least it confirms that the Sis driver has problems in this area, even with latest 0.9.3 release.
