Git commit caaed927a07ffbac68b08246185ef93c1e7bb98c (* [ Bug 6966 ] large
negative refresh rates reported) causes X to bail.  I get nothing but a black
screen.  The following message appears in my console:

Using xorg-server-git-master:

Using xorg-server-7.1.1:
*** glibc detected *** X: munmap_chunk(): invalid pointer: 0x081x26b8 ***

Reverting back to xf86-video-ati-6.6.2 solves the problem.

I'm using GCC 4.1.1 and glibc 2.4 with the Mesa CVS HEAD r300 driver.

Please let me know if you need any further information.  I have gdb, but I'm not
quite sure how to use it.

Maybe my problem is related. My server aborts on startup (it prints "Aborted",
so someone is calling exit() somewhere), and dumps the X server's virtual memory
map to the console. It currently happens with xf86-video-ati git image. 6.2.2
works fine.

I have pasted in the console dump and my xorg log.

Henry, I reverted this commit, as a lot of people bumped into this problem.
Please fix it before re-applying, or at least do so in smaller pieces to make
git bisect work.

So it looks like the modelist line is being double freed.

My xorg.conf has no modelines, but i *am* using MergedFB on my radeon 
9200SE. Maybe there is race condition in the dual screen probing as the line 
1464 in utils.c should never have gotten  there as it is protected

     if (ptr)
         free((char *)ptr);

and as you can see in frame #6, ptr is NULL, so we should never have got 
to that line...

Fix the memory problem that actually caused this bug

This patch no longer applies as the original megapatch has been reverted.  But
in case this part of the megapatch gets recommitted, I wanted this patch
available.
