It seems application/m3u is used as mimetype for .m3u files. (for example see http://filext.com/detaillist.php?extdetail=M3U). Example directly from http://shouted.fm/internetradio/index.php: http://shouted.fm/internetradio/index.php - wget'ing this gives the resulting mime type as application/m3u. Of course, one of the proper solution would be fixing the server to report the right mime type, but it's basically impossible to do that for every server in the Internet.
A wget'able url that shows this weird mimetype is http://www.shouted.fm/internetradio/stations/get.php?stream=electro&type=m3u&connection=dsl I'll see if there are more webservers serving this mimetype (most shoutcast servers actually serve audio/x-scpls, using m3u is rather seldom for streams).
Thanks, fixed.
