Description Larry Finger 2007-03-02 14:54:18 UTC
On my HP Pavilion dv2125nr with Nvidia GeForce Go 6150 graphics, I get several problems with the hardware cursor in the default state of 'on'. These problems are as follows:

1. The computer will not suspend to disk. When tried, the screen gets all jumbled. Some parts are barely recognizable. When the 'driver' section of XF86config is set to 'vesa' or when an 'option "HWCursor" "off"' line is added, it suspends normally. When it restarts, the touchpad is off, but that is not the fault of nv.

2. In terminal or browser windows, the top row of lower-case characters are sometimes missing. If refreshed, they are usually OK. Upper-case letters and numbers on the same line are OK. It is not known is HWCursor off fixes this problem.

3. After screen blanking, the cursor arrow is sometimes not displayed. Since switching to HWCursor off, this problem has not recurred. As this fault is erratic, it may take some time to tell, but it was the reason for switching to a software cursor.

4. On occasion, the screen becomes totally chaotic with nothing recognizable. When this happens, my only recourse is to power off and reboot. This problem has not been seen since switching the HWCursor off, but it was highly intermittent.

I will add my XF86config and Xorg.0.log.

With the HWCursor set to off, I have had a failure much like #4. The only difference was that the screen was completely white, not chaotic b/w as before.

xf86-video-nv has been officially unmaintained for a bit now, and we are closing all -nv bugs. If your problem was not addressed, and -nv is still broken, please try xf86-video-nouveau. Thank you.
