Hello,

I ssh into a remote server (lxplus) using xQuartz and run ROOT (as in https://root.cern.ch/) on that server. I was doing this for several months without any issues. However recently I have suddenly started having this issue. Whenever I launch something in ROOT that requires graphics, my entire xQuartz application just quits. However I can test the x11 forwarding while ssh-ed into the remote server (and not running ROOT) with xclock or something similar and it works just fine.

However, this is just a problem with my mac. If I use another computer to login to the remote server and run ROOT (or xclock, etc) the x11 forwarding works just fine.

I have tried uninstalling (using the directions on the XQuartz FAQ page), rebooting my computer, and installing it again. I still have the same problem.

Before I had this issue, I had upgraded the memory on my computer from the 2 2GB that it came with to 2 4GB that I bought. I thought (after trying everything else) that it might be the problem so I put the original memory cards back in and I still have the same problem. I do not know if this is connected to my problem.

I have asked the ROOT forums and they have not been able to help me.

I have asked the help desk associated with the remote server I use and they have not been able to help either.

I am hopeful someone here can help me.

I apologize if I posted this in the wrong place.

Thanks,
Sarah
