Description XorgBug 2017-10-11 05:39:41 UTC
Hi,

I'm running Slackware 14.2 x86_64 with only Openbox 3.6.1 as my DE.

Slack uses libcanberra-0.30

As a user I can't run canberra-gtk-play I get this message below;

canberra-gtk-play --file /usr/share/sounds/freedesktop/stereo/bell.oga
Failed to play sound: Sound disabled

It runs as root, and I'm in the group 'audio' but it still won't play.

In the past on previous versions of Slackware this has worked out the box with Alsa.

With Pulse now in Slackware 14.2 I don't know if this is the problem.

Audio plays ok online with Firefox, video/audio plays ok with mpv, I can play audio with deadbeef ok, and aplay plays wav files. Everything on my system as far as audio is concerned works, except canberra-gtk-play which I don't understand why it only works for root and not a user.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

BIG THANKS

Ok my bad, since I'm running Openbox only, I forgot to check ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini

gtk-enable-event-sounds=1

It was on 0 now it's all good set to 1...

Everything good now, sorry for making this report.
