Hello Eisenherz,
Is this reproducible? Have happened in any other steam game? What mesa and xorg are you using?

Hello Elizabeth,
seems reproducible, just tried it again and it hung again:

Dec 24 08:21:27 ProBook-430-G2 kernel: [ 939.015221] [drm] GPU HANG: ecode 8:0:0x85dfffdb, in 7DaysToDie.x86_ [6821], reason: Hang on rcs0, action: reset

Dec 24 08:21:35 ProBook-430-G2 kernel: [ 946.799955] drm/i915: Resetting chip after gpu hang
Dec 24 08:21:43 ProBook-430-G2 kernel: [ 954.831912] drm/i915: Resetting chip after gpu hang
Dec 24 08:21:51 ProBook-430-G2 kernel: [ 962.767753] drm/i915: Resetting chip after gpu hang
Dec 24 08:21:59 ProBook-430-G2 kernel: [ 970.831636] drm/i915: Resetting chip after gpu hang

Mesa and xorg versions:

Package: mesa-opencl-icd
Version: 17.2.2-0ubuntu1

Package: xserver-xorg-core
Version: 2:1.19.5-0ubuntu2

As far as i can say, 7DaysToDie seems to be the only game where this happens. Gnome3 window manager "Mutter" is also crashing often when i try to start the game.

Same error with Version: 1:17.3.1-1~a~padoka0 from https://launchpad.net/~paulo-miguel-dias/+archive/ubuntu/pkppa

Maybe it's more a Kernel problem, because with 16.04.3 it works without a problem.

Package: linux-image-generic
Version: 4.13.0.21.22

If you got the time it may be relevant to try with 4.9 kernel and/or SNA.

Hi guys
I've tried to reproduce the issue on Broadwell (Intel® HD Graphics 5500, Intel(R) Core i3-5005U, 4GB RAM) on Ubuntu 18.04 with 4.13.0 and 5.0.0 versions of Kernel, also I used 17.2.2 and the latest master version of mesa - with no luck.
Since the issue is old (around 1.5 years) - maybe, the hang was resolved by one of next version of the game.
So, I think the ticket can be closed.

One more point, since there was only 4 GB RAM on my machine, I added additional swap because 4 GB RAM was not enough and the game crashed at launch. Maybe this information can be helpful.

Sorry, that i was absend all the time. This error has been gone for some time. Can't remember the Mesa version. But with the latest release of the game, it crashes already at the loading screen. I don't think that this new errer is a Mesa or Kernel issue. I also think we can close this ticket.

Best regards

Hi Eisenherz,
I think the same - it's not a Mesa or Kernel issue.
I had the next output of dmesg after crash - Out of memory: Kill process 10052 (7DaysToDie.x86_)
I've resolved the issue via adding of swap space.
If you have the same issue - try to resolve it by adding of swap space.
