With Linux 4.14 (and before) using the HiDPI monitor Dell UP3214Q with libdrm 2.4.88, and X.Org X Server 1.19.5, and Xfce moving a window and switching workspaces there are quite a lot of glitches. Moving the terminal window, the borders stay not in line for example. ``` $ lspci -nn -s 0:02.0 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation HD Graphics 530 [8086:1912] (rev 06) $ xrandr Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 3840 x 2160, maximum 8192 x 8192 HDMI-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI-2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP-2 connected 3840x2160+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 698mm x 392mm 3840x2160 30.0*+ 30.0 30.0 2560x1440 60.0 1920x1200 59.9 1920x1080 60.0 60.0 50.0 59.9 24.0 24.0 1920x1080i 60.1 50.0 60.0 1600x1200 60.0 1680x1050 60.0 1280x1024 75.0 60.0 1280x800 59.8 1152x864 75.0 1280x720 60.0 50.0 59.9 1024x768 75.0 60.0 800x600 75.0 60.3 720x576 50.0 720x480 60.0 59.9 640x480 75.0 60.0 59.9 720x400 70.1 HDMI-3 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP-3 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) ``` Is that expected due to the 30 frames per second, or should there be no glitches.
This problem is reported in other forums too [1]. So, according to [1] 60 Hz should work, and it does work under Microsoft Windows. I’ll check the cable first. Please confirm, that you have HD Graphics 530 devices, that drive UHD monitors with 60 Hz under GNU/Linux. [1] https://forum.level1techs.com/t/why-cant-intel-530-graphics-run-4k-60hz/113809
Thanks to tsa in #intel-gfx pointing me to the logs of a Skylake system in the Intel test matrix [1]. There should be some support for UHD with 60 Hz. ``` […] 72 71 connected DP 600x340 32 modes: name refresh (Hz) hdisp hss hse htot vdisp vss vse vtot flags type clock [0] 3840x2160 60 3840 3888 3920 4000 2160 2163 2168 2222 0x9 0x48 533250 […] ``` [1] https://intel-gfx-ci.01.org/hardware/fi-skl-6770hq/testdisplay-i.log
