drm-tip kernel config

On a Dell Precision 7510 with a Dell E-Port Plus II docking station, a monitor on the second display port or dvi plug never shows connected when using the intel video.
This configuration works just fine on Windows.
The laptop includes an AMD card as well; if I disable the intel video and use only the AMD video, this configuration also works just fine.
This has never worked as long as I've had this laptop, which dates back to Dec 2015.
I have used many vanilla kernels from probably 4.1 or 4.2 up through current drm-tip. The rest of the system is Gentoo.
Kernel command line is: root=/dev/nvme0n1p2 ro init=/usr/lib/systemd/systemd drm.debug=0xe
I boot the kernel directly from the EFI, I don't use grub or any other bootloader.

I will have three attachments: kernel-config, dmesg output & xrandr --verbose output.

xrandr --verbose output

eDP1 is the laptop screen.
DP1 is the first display port of the docking station.

I don't know what the other disconnected ports are ie (DP2, DP3, HDMI 1, 2 or 3).
The port names are different when using the AMD video and I don't know how to map between the two.

I meant to also mention, enabling or disabling the eDP1 laptop screen does not impact the functionality of the second display port on the docking station.

I have also tried un-plugging & re-plugging the display port cable while the system is running, this does not produce any output in dmesg.
I have also tried removing & restoring power from the second monitor while the system is running, this also does not produce additional output in dmesg.

Is there anybody I can bribe to help with this?
...perhaps a beer, or several beers...or a case of beer...

I would also be able to give a similar dell docking station to anybody who would need that in order to assist.

Unfortunately I do not. I am not familiar with driver development in
general, and I know graphics are the most complicated...

Does it work on Windows with AMD disabled?

Yes. Under windows 10 everything works as expected in every config
permutation.

First of all. Sorry about spam.
This is mass update for our bugs.

Sorry if you feel this annoying but with this trying to understand if bug still valid or not.
If bug investigation still in progress, please ignore this and I apologize!

If you think this is not anymore valid, please comment to the bug that can be closed.
If you haven't tested with our latest pre-upstream tree(drm-tip), can you do that also to see if issue is valid there still and if you cannot see issue there, please comment to the bug.
Comment 10 Jani Saarinen 2018-04-25 10:55:42 UTC
Rick have you tried latest drm-tip lately. There has been some fixes related to docking fixes so worth to try? See eg. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=104425
