Description James Schek 2007-03-29 08:29:53 UTC
When I try to launch Gnome-Terminal from X-Win32 8.0.2122, I get an error. The error will loop continuously, opeing more and more and more broken terminal windows until I terminate my connection.

The console shows the following error:

Error: Cairo 1.2.6 does not yet support the requested image format:
        Depth: 16
        Alpha mask: 0x00000000
        Red mask: 0x00007c00
        Green mask: 0x000003e0
        Blue mask: 0x0000001f
Please file an enhancement request (quoting the above) at:
http://bugs.freedesktop.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=cairo
gnome-terminal: cairo-image-surface.c:201: _cairo_format_from_pixman_format: Assertion `NOT_REACHED' failed.

Hello,

I am getting this same error message, but in a very different context and with a different version of libcairo2. I am running Debian unstable on an x86 machine.

Most applications with a gui (including rhythmbox and firefox) seem to be dying with an error message similar to this one:

Error: Cairo 1.4.6 does not yet support the requested image format:
        Depth: 16
        Alpha mask: 0x00000000
        Red mask: 0x00007c00
        Green mask: 0x000003e0
        Blue mask: 0x0000001f
Please file an enhancement request (quoting the above) at:
http://bugs.freedesktop.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=cairo
gnome-panel: /home/dajobe/dev/debian/cairo/libcairo-1.4.6/src/cairo-image-surfac
e.c:199: _cairo_format_from_pixman_format: Assertion `NOT_REACHED' failed.

As a result, my entire desktop is currently pretty hosed, which is why I am raising the severity and priority of this bug report.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help you reproduce the problem. As I am not a cairo expert, I am also happy to receive any advice for things to try on my end to ameliorate the situation.

Thanks in advance for your time and consideration,
Don

Looks like a 565 xlib visual to me---retitling to make it more clear.

Let's just state that it must have been disguised at the time and mark this as duplicate for 9251.
