Dear all, First of all congratulations for the great job you have done! I would like to report an installation bug. By default settings, it is not possible to install any Linux distro. The installation freeze in the middle. To do it I have to set on the install boot stuffs like: "nomodeset", "nouveau.modeset=0", "i915.modeset=1", "nvidia-drm.modeset=1", "systemd.mask=mhwd-live.service". I am an begginner/intermediate user, and as far as I understand it is a bug on the video card modules that causes conflict and freeze. Unfortunately there is no actionable information. nouveau.modeset=0 disables nouveau nomodeset disables all kms drivers We'd need to see a log of what happens when nouveau is not forcefully disabled like that. GM107 should, generally speaking, work fine.
To elaborate a bit on what Ilia said: - using foo.modeset=0 - disables the graphics driver foo - nomodeset is equivalent to nouveau.modeset=0 i915.modeset=0 nvidia-drm.modeset=0 -> aka all the drivers are disabled Since you managed to install it: - boot without any modeset lines - get the output of dmesg (ssh to the machine if needed) + attach as plain text - list the version of kernel/mesa/libdrm/xf86-video-nouveau installed For more details check the nouveau Bugs wiki [1] [1] https://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/Bugs/

Considering that nouveau.modeset=0 helps, I'm flipping this to component nouveau. The point here is that Nvidia has no drivers in use. With nouveau, system breaks (impossible to boot), with proprietary system get slow and freeze often (I am aware that you do not deal with proprietary drivers). If I boot with "quite splash", the system breaks before boot. If I boot without any "modeset", the system only get to the terminal. The only way to get "normal" use is booting with any "nomodeset" (without proprietary driver for videocard). I was wondering to understand why the distros (all of them) do not work out of the box in this machine. As they work great in general in any machine.
